Ryan David Horst

My name is Ryan David Horst, and I am a recent graduate of Susquehanna University, where I’ve received a BFA in Acting with a minor in Arts Administration. Alongside my performance training, I have hands-on experience in theatre carpentry and design, which has deepened my understanding of the collaborative and technical aspects of production. I’m passionate about creating meaningful, dynamic theatre both onstage and behind the scenes.

More about me

I grew up in Pennsylvania and found theatre as a place where I could make sense of things that didn’t always have clear answers. It became less about performing and more about exploring; figuring out how space and transformation work together. As an actor, I’m drawn to roles that sit in discomfort, where vulnerability and tension live. When I’m designing scenery, I think about how a space can hold weight and meaning, not just look good, how it can shape the story just as much as the people in it.

A lot of the work I’m interested in deals with discomfort. Curiosity also shows up in my academic work, where I look at questions around ethics and performance, especially through ideas like Buddhist thought and how we represent harm on stage. At the end of the day, I’m not trying to create work that feels easy, I’m more interested in work that sticks in the minds of people, challenges them to think, and to question the world they live in.
